The Folsom Police Department has announced a targeted operation to improve pedestrian safety set for Tuesday, August 6. This initiative comes as schools across the city are reopening, prompting a renewed focus on the safety of pedestrians, particularly children. According to a statement from the Folsom Police Department, officers will be on the lookout for both drivers and pedestrians who violate traffic laws, with a keen eye on acts such as failing to yield, speeding, illegal turns, and ignoring traffic signals.
“With school starting in neighborhoods around the City this week, it is imperative that both pedestrians and drivers follow the rules of the road to make sure they get to their destinations safely,” Sergeant Tim Galovich emphasized on the Folsom Police Department Facebook page. Enforcement will not be limited just to motorists; pedestrians who jaywalk, disregard signals, or appear distracted may also face intervention. The proactive approach taken by the Folsom Police aims to reduce the risks associated with vehicular and pedestrian traffic as students return to their routines.
The police have outlined several specific behaviors they expect from city-goers: Pedestrians should use designated crosswalks or intersections and remain alert for reversing cars, while drivers should practice patience, allowing pedestrians to safely cross and slowing down near bustling intersections. Additionally, Sergeant Galovich urged, parents should ensure their children understand and follow best practices when it comes to walking or biking to school.
