A road rage incident in San Bernardino County has led to the arrest of a 62-year-old Fontana resident after firearms were discovered during the investigation. The confrontation took place on Thursday near Glen Helen Parkway and Clearwater Parkway. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, following an altercation involving a firearm, the suspect, Sandy Thomas, was detained by deputies and a search warrant was executed at his residence.
Driving home early Thursday morning, the alleged victim found himself behind a blue Chevrolet Camaro, which was involved in the menacing encounter. Driving behind the victim's vehicle, Thomas is accused of brandishing a firearm during a road rage skirmish, effectively prompting the victim to fear for his life and contact emergency services.
Authorities were quick to act upon receiving the 911 call, with swift coordination between the Sheriff's Dispatch, Sheriff's Aviation, and local police departments enabling the location and apprehension of Thomas. With descriptions of both suspect and vehicle in hand, officials tracked Thomas to his Stoneridge Drive home. There, outside of the two-story residence, deputies safely detained him without incident.
The subsequent search of Thomas' home yielded a black semi-automatic pistol and a pistol grip shotgun, alongside loaded magazines and additional ammunition, which were all seized and booked as evidence, as detailed by the Sheriff-Coroner Department's release. Following the discovery, Thomas found himself housed at West Valley Detention Center, facing serious charges, with the community's safety teetering momentarily on the edge of one individual's volatile impulses.
