Former Michigan and Florida Police Officer Charged with Attempted Sexual Misconduct with MinorSource: Genesee County Sheriff's Office

A former police officer with a history of service in Michigan and Florida faces serious charges after allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor. According to FOX 2 Detroit, sixty-year-old Jeffrey David Morningstar has been accused of child sexually abusive activity, using a computer to commit a crime, and accosting a child for immoral purposes.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office detailed the arrest of Morningstar following a sting operation orchestrated by the Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team (G.H.O.S.T). Sheriff Chris Swanson was quoted saying, "When Morningstar answered the call of our sting, he responded because a trafficker was selling a 15-year-old," as obtained by FOX 2 Detroit. Morningstar allegedly offered to pay $125 for sex with the teenager, and an additional $25 for the minor to urinate on him, a fact Swanson found troubling to communicate but deemed necessary for public awareness and the integrity of the investigation. Morningstar turned himself in on Thursday and was arraigned with a $44,000 bond, he is to avoid contact with anyone under the age of 18.

The former officer's police background spans several departments. According to clickondetroit, Morningstar began his law enforcement career in Detroit, not making it onto the streets, rather quickly transferring to Millington, where he served for six years. He then moved on to the Clio Police Department for 18 months and eventually to Florida, where he served at the Longboat Key Police Department for 12 years. At the time of the sting that led to his arrest, he was no longer an active officer, and details regarding the termination of his Florida service were not immediately clear.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any additional information. "Here's my concern: He knocked on the door, and G.H.O.S.T answered," Swanson told Audacy. "Has he done it to someone who wasn't G.H.O.S.T?" With the community's safety in focus, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with relevant information to call 810-257-3422 in an effort to better understand Morningstar's actions and potentially identify other victims.
