Fort Worth, a city known for its community engagement and cultural vitality, has recently celebrated a significant milestone as residents collectively surpassed an impressive 4.5 million minutes of reading throughout the Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge. As reported by the City of Fort Worth, the challenge took place from June 1 to Aug. 10 and saw 8,608 participants embracing the world of books.

In a show of literary enthusiasm, Fort Worth residents not only joined the challenge but also, many met and exceeded their reading goals. According to the City of Fort Worth, more than 2,300 people completed the challenge by reading at least 1,000 minutes for adults, and 500 minutes for children. Mayor Mattie Parker shared her excitement about the event, stating, "I’m thrilled that the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge led Fort Worth residents to read over 4.5 million minutes this summer." She encouraged the community to "read for enjoyment or exploring or for whatever motivates you to continue learning all year round."

For families, the Fort Worth Public Library offers additional programs like weekly story times and the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative, which supports early literacy development. Adults looking to engage with literature have a plethora of book clubs to choose from, including specific genre-focused groups. The Stay at Home Book Club, which was initiated in response to the pandemic, provides a virtual space for readers to discuss eBooks and share their insights on Facebook. These programs ensure that the city's readers, young and old, have access to robust resources catering to their diverse tastes and needs.
