In a brisk operation by Garland Police, three suspects have been cast into the unyielding grip of the law, charged with the theft of some $10,000 worth of copper cable. The Garland Police Department took to Facebook to release details of the chase and ensuing arrests last Friday, illustrating a sequence of events that began with a heist in broad daylight and escalated into a vehicular pursuit ending in capture.
The ordeal unfolded as a caller alerted police to suspicious activities on Belt Line Road and Wagon Wheel last Wednesday. Reportedly blocking a lane with their U-Haul, the suspects were apprehended after trying to escape, with two directly nabbed by the officers and the third, after briefly eluding capture, being arrested the following day. Although the U-Haul attempting to skirt officers managed to instigate a pursuit, it was winding up being short-lived.
Garland officers seized Izely Guadalupe Guerrero Rodriguez, 27, behind the wheel, initiating what would be a futile attempt to outrun justice. Once the dust settled, law enforcement officers further apprehended Jerome Wayne Perkins, 41, in the mundane confines of a nearby convenience store, while the third suspect, Richard Wayne Schultz, 37, was located on Thursday in Dallas. The suspects appeared to have used a saw to sever the copper cable from a utility pole, which was later discovered in the getaway vehicle.
After these arrests, the breaches of law unveiled deeper transgressions, narcotics, and a firearm found among Guerrero and Perkins. The Garland Detention Center now houses all three individuals where they await judicial scrutiny. Guerrero faces charges including evading arrest with a vehicle and possession of fentanyl, while Perkins, caught in both the grip of an illegal substance with methamphetamine and the unlawful carrying of a weapon as a felon, must answer to his slew of indictments. Schultz is pinned with evading arrest and theft charges, shadowed by the notoriety of their escapade.
