The journey of the latest "super load" is set to commence on August 22 as part of an ongoing project to transport essential components to the new Intel plant in Licking County, Ohio. This sixteenth load, a sizable tank, is scheduled to embark from Adams County, with the Ohio Department of Transportation confirming the route to New Albany. The tank is a behemoth, towering at 19’1” and spreading 16’1” wide, with a length of 197 feet and a weight of 395,450 pounds.
As detailed by the Ohio Department of Transportation, this considerable transport operation has been carefully planned to ensure minimal disruption. The trek will include stops in Chillicothe and Rickenbacker along its path, aiming for an August 24 delivery. In an elaborate dance of logistics, several Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers will escort the load, facilitating any necessary detours for emergency traffic.
These super loads are a testament to human engineering and meticulous stakeholder coordination. Local governments, utility companies, and other entities are involved to avoid complications, with traffic signs, signals, and utility lines adjusted or temporarily relocated to accommodate the convoy's substantial dimensions. This strategic planning underscores the importance of the loads and their eventual role in Ohio’s manufacturing landscape.
The Ohio Department of Transportation has also been proactive in community relations, mitigating potential clashes with local events like fairs and festivals. After checking local calendars, all the nearly two dozen loads are scheduled, ensuring that these logistical behemoths weave through social commitments with minimal interference. Moreover, public notifications are made before each departure from the dock near Manchester, with regular updates as the loads edge northward.
