Last Friday, a man's life was tragically cut short as gunfire shattered at a Houston gas station, and now one suspect has been taken into custody while authorities search for an accomplice. The Houston Police Department reported that Juan Luis Herrejon, 50, has been charged with murder regarding the incident at 11902 Hempstead Highway. Authorities have yet to formally identify the 44-year-old victim, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to a news release City of Houston.

Details provided by HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Waterwall and K. Amri revealed that the initial response to the shooting came around 6:30 p.m. when officers found the man unresponsive with gunshot wounds. The police quickly located a red, two-door pickup truck believed to be involved in the crime. Herrejon emerged from a residence as the vehicle was about to be towed and was detained. In a statement to the police, he admitted his role in the shooting and now faces murder charges in the 182nd State District Court.

The Houston Fire Department paramedics reportedly pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the crime has sparked a manhunt for the remaining suspect, who is still at large. The HPD has described the two initial suspects as Hispanic males who fled in the pickup truck.

Law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out. HPD has requested that tips be directed to their Homicide Division or to speak up anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
