A Houston resident Derek Stephen Lowry Jr., 36, is facing felony animal cruelty charges after his brutal actions against a dog were captured by a Ring camera. Harris County Pct. 1 Constable Alan Rosen's office acted on the disturbing evidence, and Lowry was subsequently arrested, according to FOX 26.
The Ring doorbell footage, according to Constable Rosen's investigators, depicted a scene where Lowry was caught violently pulling the leash of a mixed-breed dog and resorting to kicking it, causing the beleaguered animal to painfully slide across the ground. The dog, despite the aggression shown towards it, was non-aggressive and cowered during the episode. Crime Stoppers of Houston had initially tipped off the authorities, leading to the involvement of the Pct. 1 Warrant Division in the apprehension.
In a sweep highlighting the broader issue of animal cruelty in Harris County, a separate FOX 26 article reveals that local leaders are actively pursuing 13 individuals wanted on active felony and misdemeanor warrants for animal cruelty charges. Notorious among the wanted is Derek Stephan Lowry Jr., whose current charges compound his legal woes alongside an unrelated theft offense in Brazoria County.
