In the wake of a grim discovery along the Brays Bayou Greenway Trail, police have made a significant arrest in the murder case that has rattled the Hockley neighborhood. The suspect, Oscar Daniel Vega Espinoza, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence after the body of a woman exhibiting trauma from an apparent stab wound was found near 8200 Hockley Street on the morning of August 17.
According to a news release from the City of Houston, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is still to verify officially the identity of the victim who was 30 years old. The swift but exhaustive efforts of the HPD Homicide Division led by Sgt. B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger, finally tracked down and arrested Vega Espinoza, the victim's ex-boyfriend, who was already charged last Friday, August 23.
Following the discovery of the victim's body, investigators swiftly pieced together evidence that pointed to Vega Espinoza's involvement. "The body had signs of trauma, indicative of a stab wound(s)," stated Sgt. B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger in the initial investigation report. Their diligent work quickly began to close the net on the suspect, as per the City of Houston news.
Finally, Vega Espinoza was apprehended yesterday by deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, marking an end to the immediate manhunt. He was taken into custody without incident and was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
