Tragedy struck late Thursday night when a motorcyclist was killed in a vehicular incident on Mesa Drive in Houston. The crash, which occurred just before midnight, remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division. According to a statement from the HPD, a 40-year-old man, whose identity is still pending verification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sequence of events as detailed by Sergeant J. Richards and Officer R. Guzman suggests the victim was stationary at a red light on his black Honda XL1 motorcycle. It was then that a gray Kia Forte, driven by a 27-year-old male, reportedly failed to control speed and collided with the motorcycle from behind. The force of impact was sufficient to eject the operator of the motorcycle and to leave him fatally injured. Witnesses to the incident observed the Kia driver exit his vehicle and swiftly flee on foot, leaving behind a scene where the repercussions of his actions soon to unfold.

First responders from the Houston Fire Department were dispatched to 5800 Mesa Drive, where they declared the motorcyclist deceased.  Finding the driver of the Kia was not immediate but inevitable. Hours later, he was located and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
