In a recent turn of events for city commuters, the Department of Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi announced the indefinite closure of the Noble Street Bridge over 13th Street. This vital link, nestled between Broad Street and 12th Street, closed yesterday, due to safety concerns about the bridge's steel support beams, according to the City of Philadelphia.
Travelers who used the bridge saw warning signs on Broad Street and Noble Street. However, no official detour signs were provided. Instead, Noble Street was barricaded at both ends near the bridge. Local traffic still flowed two ways on Noble Street up to where the bridge crossed 13th Street.
The closure affected more than just motorists. Pedestrians and cyclists were rerouted through the Rail Park, where they could cross over 13th Street. The Department of Streets acknowledged the inconvenience and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation. With no immediate fix or reopening date, commuters had to adjust to this new reality. The Rail Park remained open, providing a bit of continuity as infrastructure work continued.
