The reverberations of the HARD Summer Music Festival, emanating from Hollywood Park near SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, lingered in more ways than one over the past weekend. According to ABC7, residents as far as El Segundo and Redondo Beach reached out with complaints of migraines and rattling homes.
Mayor James T. Butts acknowledged these concerns, stating that "the Mayor's Office had been in contact with SoFi Stadium management and the promoter of the music festival, and adjustments were "made both physically and acoustically," as reported by NBC Los Angeles. These changes were a response to what Mayor Butts called the first volume of complaints of this nature in five years. Meanwhile, festival organizers contended with sound issues, stating they operated within legally acceptable noise levels, yet making operational changes to mitigate them.
While festival aficionados may have rejoiced at the thumping beats, locals found little solace. Reporting on individual resident experiences, FOXLA shared stories of those disrupted by the auditory force. One resident, Doty, recounted having to use earplugs and a noise-canceling machine to drown out the pounding music, saying it was incredibly annoying. According to the HARD Summer team, despite the sound monitors deployed in the field to monitor and respond to all noise complaints, they still received feedback about sound issues and acknowledged the importance of being good members of the community and considerate neighbors to the city of Inglewood.
While the clash of decibels continued, some feedback underscored the economic upside. Local business owner Amin Badrudin told FOXLA, that the event brings good dollars into the business as it draws in patrons from across the nation. Despite this, festival organizers stated, their responsibility to the community remains paramount. "Our team will be reacting in real-time to adjust concerns until the event ends promptly at 10 PM," the organizers affirmed in a statement obtained by NBC Los Angeles.
The event concluded on Sunday night, with Inglewood city officials and the HARD Summer organizers hoping that their reactive measures have sufficiently quelled the dissonance of complaints emerging from the juxtaposition of ardent festivalgoers and the seeking calm of South Bay residents.
