A Gardena neighborhood was the backdrop for a violent incident involving a member of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and a 36-year-old woman, later identified as Jessica Chavez from Inglewood. The confrontation, which escalated into a physical altercation and a car crash, was captured on video, according to NBC Los Angeles. Chavez is accused of attacking the firefighter and then slamming a white Audi sedan into multiple vehicles, including an undercover police car.
The sequence of events began around 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday in the 2600 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard when fire department personnel, who were attempting to offer assistance following a reported dispute Chavez had with an unidentified male, became her target. As recorded by resident Frank Rojas, Chavez was just a lot of physical on her end, hitting the car and arguing with the firefighter who tried de-escalating the situation before Chavez abruptly left, returned, and crashed into the Gardena police vehicle, as well as the L.A. County fire SUV causing property damage but thankfully no major injuries, this according to the Eyewitness News.
CBS News Los Angeles presented cell phone footage showing the verbal dispute that quickly turned violent, as Chavez struck the firefighter's vehicle and him, despite his attempts to reiterate that they were there to help her; the confrontation led to a short vehicle pursuit, culminating in the collision involving the police and fire department vehicles.
Following the ordeal, Chavez was apprehended and is now facing numerous charges including assault on a firefighter/EMT, assault with a deadly weapon, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while during the moment of the crash car parts were scattered across the roadway, avoiding a scenario where someone could have been seriously hurt, authorities disclosed information on the charges to KTLA.
