Last week at Sonrise Christian Day School in Linwood, Pennsylvania, an intoxicated man named Saheir Sadler-Chandler tried to break into the daycare. The 18-year-old, who was naked and covered in blood, jumped from a second-story window before police arrested him, as reported by FOX29.
Officers responded to the scene to find a chaotic tableau with clothes strewn and loud noises of distress emanating from above. They had to act fast to contain what could have quickly unraveled into a disaster. As reported by 6ABC, the daycare had already been put on lockdown by its director, Angela Ewald Sannino, using walkie-talkies, ensuring that staff were prepared to safeguard the children within.
The staff's vigilance was recognized by Sannino in a statement obtained by 6ABC, "I cannot commend the staff enough. They kept everyone safe. Those doors were locked. Those children were quiet as can be. It was wonderful. I'm so proud of my staff right now." Assistant Day Care Director Jaimee Bartholf echoed this during an interview with the same publication, reflecting relief that despite the potential for grave harm, the situation was deftly handled and ended without injury to the children.
Sadler-Chandler now faces over 100 offenses, including but not limited to burglary, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and weapons offenses, as he is accused of having been armed with scissors during his attempted break-in. Charges also encompass the aggression directed towards medical staff while being transported to a medical center for treatment, as detailed by FOX29. "He spat blood and saliva on medical staff," reported the outlet, detailing the assailant's further lack of restraint even once taken out of the immediate scene of the incident.
While the ongoing investigation continues to unfold, Sonrise Christian Day School staff are focusing on the readiness and resilience shown in the face of danger. As noted by PHL17, the security measures in place successfully repelled the intruder's entry into the main area.
