Katy's culinary landscape has welcomed a new player with the opening of Krazy Dog, a Houston-born Korean corn dog chain known for its unique take on the classic American snack. The latest addition, located at 1507 S. Mason Road in Katy, is the third outpost of a rapidly expanding enterprise, born from the vision of husband and wife team Minku Kang and Min Ju, as repoprted by the Houston Chronicle.
Serving up a variety of Korean corn dogs distinguished by their rice flour batter and crunchy panko breadcrumb coating, the restaurant has quickly garnered attention. The diverse menu boasts a variety of fillings like sausage, or cheese, and inventive toppings such as potato, elote, and the kid-favorite, crushed spicy Cheetos, as per a statement obtained by the Houston Chronicle. Not to be confined to the savory, Krazy Dog also caters to the sweet tooth with a lineup of croffles—a fusion of croissants and waffles—draped in toppings like strawberries, bananas, and Nutella.
Owners Jaekwan and Sungjin Chang, who operate the new franchise location, are contributing to the brand's fast-paced growth, with a fourth venue slated to open in Spring. Min Ju, reflecting on her inspiration behind Krazy Dog, told Houston Chronicle, “I’ve always wanted to open my own dessert store,” adding that Korean hotdogs were a beloved treat from her childhood experiences in Korea.
The Katy location kicked off with a soft launch, running limited hours from July 26 to August 2, with the grand opening celebrated on August 3rd. Min Ju captures the initial customer curiosity around their unconventional offering, stating, “At first (customers) don’t know what’s going on, because its not a typical corn dog — they’re not sure how to order, which is why we have a 'how to order' brochure to guide the customer," in a statement obtained by the Houston Chronicle. With all this enthusiasm for a cultural and culinary exchange, Krazy Dog is poised to make a lasting impression on Houston's food scene and beyond.
