Heads up, Vegas drivers: if your commute takes you down Las Vegas Boulevard or you’re buzzing through Tropicana Avenue, you’ll want to keep an eye out for some fresh lane restrictions, Clark County officials advised. The Las Vegas Boulevard Improvement Project is rolling on, and here’s the rundown on where and when you’ll have to squeeze through the orange cones.
Don’t expect to zip down Las Vegas Boulevard between Reno and Tropicana without a hitch; from midnight to the bright morning of 9 am, Monday through Friday, water connection work has slimmed down traffic lanes both ways until this Friday, Aug. 30. Meanwhile, that same stretch up to Harmon Avenue, is getting new bollards with just two northbound lanes cleared until Sept. 6, and southbound from Tropicana to Reno is also keeping two lanes open for the construction of a bus pad and barrier rail with the same end date.
Over on Tropicana Avenue, things get a little snug too, from 8:30 at night to 6:30 am, two lanes will stay open in both westbound and eastbound directions for construction work, this detour is scheduled to stay put through Aug. 30. As if that wasn’t enough, Tropicana Avenue is taking another hit between New York-New York Drive and Duke Ellington Way for excavation and paving; starting Sept. 3, you’ll be down to one lane each way and the windows of work stretch from 11 pm to 11 am Sept. 3-4, and then change over from 9 pm to 9 am Sept. 4-5.
Let’s look ahead too, because on Sept. 5, from the evening grind at 9 pm through the early commute at 9 am on Friday, Tropicana will flow with three lanes eastbound but keep tight with one lane westbound for the ongoing work, this is all part of the pressing upgrades that span from Sahara Avenue to the 215 Beltway. These revamps include everything from fresh pavement and improved pedestrian crossings to shiny new smart poles and traffic signals.
If you’re one to rely on the RTC bus as your trusty steed through Sin City, take note that stop 1405 northbound before Tropicana is out of commission; hitch a ride instead at stop 1371 at MGM/Showcase Mall, for buses trekking eastbound on Tropicana after Las Vegas Boulevard, stop 2812 has also been put on pause. For the scoop on what else is brewing in the corridor or to see if your routine route is caught up in the works, Clark County hands you the keys to stay informed with their website, while Southern Nevada’s Regional Transportation Commission serves up traffic alerts and detours on theirs.
