Last night in Long Beach turned up a couple of close calls and saw the police department busy, with officers managing to prevent potential harm by seizing two firearms in separate incidents. Initial reports from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) addressed a shooting that thankfully resulted in no injuries—a no-hit shooting took place on the 500 block of Pleasant Street, where officers discovered an unoccupied vehicle peppered with bullet strike marks after receiving a call about a shooting at approximately 11:27 p.m. on Aug. 13, 2024, according to an LBPD blotter. The suspects involved evaded the scene before officers arrived, and the motive is still unclear, with investigations continuing in an attempt to unravel what provoked the gunfire.
Earlier that evening, at around 6:54 p.m., LBPD pulled off a traffic stop near Pacific Coast Highway and Orange Avenue, where a routine search led to the discovery of a firearm inside the vehicle; the driver, later identified as a prohibited possessor, got arrested, the LBPD blotter detailed.
A separate incident unfolded in the early hours of August 14, when officers got tipped about some folks flashing a gun around Harbor Plaza and Queens Way. The LBPD responded fast, locating the group, found and confiscated the firearm while taking a male juvenile suspect into custody, as per the blotter report.
There's no official word on any connections between these events. Individuals with information regarding the no-hit shooting or who may have witnessed anything related to the incidents are being encouraged to come forward as the investigations forge ahead.
