
East Houston witnessed a sudden disruption of its usual traffic pattern Sunday evening when a major accident involving two vehicles occurred on the East Freeway, near Freeport Blvd. The collision prompted an emergency response that included road closures while first responders attended the scene.
According to Click2Houston, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that one of the cars involved in the crash flipped several times, leading to the ejection of its passengers, an adult and two children, and temporary inconvenience signified a much graver situation on Sunday.
Emergency personnel promptly transported the three individuals from the overturned car to a hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries has not been disclosed. On the other hand, the occupants of the other car involved were not reported to have sustained injuries.
As a result of the accident, traffic was considerably impacted in the area. "The eastbound outbound main lanes were shut down to one lane. The eastbound service road at Freeport Street was also shut down," stated KHOU. By morning, however, lanes had reopened, and steady streams of commuters reclaimed the freeway.
Sheriff Gonzalez has not yet released further details about the crash as investigations continue.
