The City of Lewisville is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to art in public spaces. They've pulled in Massachusetts-based artist Michele Gutlove, the creative force behind Studio GH, to drop a statement piece right into the heart of the Lewisville Public Library. Gutlove, rising above a pool of over 200 applicants, brings more than two decades of experience and a hefty portfolio with over 50 commissions that brighten up spaces across the U.S. and beyond. She does magic with handmade glass, playing with light in ways that grab your eye and won't let go. The City of Lewisville details that Gutlove's project, aptly dubbed 'Luminous,' will be a beacon of artistry in the library's atrium.
Set to hit the scene in early 2025, 'Luminous' is all about drawing from Lewisville's backyard beauties, from the lake to the prairie, Gutlove takes this cue to craft tall glass pieces that'll embrace a main column like a well-loved scarf and dangle smaller bits above the stairs, catching light like the lake catches stars the glow of these pieces is set to echo the shimmer of Lewisville Lake and aim to mirror the natural dynamism of the Blackland Prairie, it’s all about bringing a bit of the outside, inside. If you're itching for a preview, Studio GH's website is a click away for a sneak peek at what's to come. And for those who can’t wait to see it live, the city's public art portfolio is up for browsing on their “Public Art” page, a showcase of finished and up-and-coming attractions complete with juicy renderings.
Gutlove's work plays right into the goals mapped out in the Lewisville 2025 vision plan, specifically the "Identity, Place, and Communication", one of the plan's big moves, and it's hitting the notes of the Public Art Master Plan which is all about weaving art into the fabric of civic landmarks, this isn’t just art for art's sake, it’s part of a bigger picture. And because everyone loves bureaucracy, you can dive into the whole Lewisville 2025 plan online, where it's laid out in black and white and blueprints, for the curious or the seriously civic-minded.
