
A recent investigation into a burglary at Redlands East Valley High School led to an arrest in Mentone. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Mentone resident Edward Dykstra, was apprehended after detectives found stolen property and an unregistered firearm at his residence.
Deputies first responded to a call from the high school on August 11, 2024, where electronics valued at over $3,000 had been reported stolen. Following an investigation, Edward Dykstra was singled out as the prime suspect. On the morning of August 21, deputies from the Central Station Detective Bureau and the Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) conducted a search warrant at Dykstra's home, discovering the missing items from the high school, alongside the aforementioned firearm.
Dykstra was arrested on the spot for PC 459-Burglary, as mentioned in a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department. This detail was confirmed during a follow-up with Deputy Nicholas Vaca from the Central Station Detective Bureau.
The Sheriff's Department has encouraged anyone with further information related to the incident to reach out to the Central Station Detective Bureau directly or to provide anonymous tips via the We-Tip Hotline or its website. While the suspect is in custody, the investigation remains open as officers continue to piece together the events leading up to the burglary.
