The Dallas County Juvenile Department is once again under the guidance of an old hand, Mike Griffiths, who's tasked with the interim director role following the resignation of Darryl Beatty amidst growing controversies. According to NBC DFW, Griffiths is determined to conduct a complete external review of the department to regain the lost trust of the community and stakeholders following allegations of neglect and abuse within the juvenile detention center.

In the wake of the scandal, Beatty denied all charges against him in an interview on July 3, claiming, "The allegations being leveled that youth are being subjected to inhumane treatment are categorically false". Despite this, the system has been criticized heavily, leading to demands for a thorough investigation. During his tenure, Griffiths aims to substantially confront the issues highlighted, including concerns raised by the Office of Inspector General and the standards and compliance division of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price expressed confidence in Griffiths, telling FOX 4, “He can fix it. He has the historical knowledge, and he has the operational knowledge".

Further demonstrating their dedication to reform, Dallas County Commissioners have authorized a shift from dated handwritten logs to a more reliable electronic monitoring system, a move that activist John Fullinwider supported. “The fact that we couldn’t trust the handwritten logs says a lot about the system as it’s been for years. And so, I think that’s probably a good idea given the state of things,” Fullinwider said, as per NBC DFW.
