
Chaos ensued at the Colorado Mills Mall in Lakewood this past Saturday when a seemingly innocuous prank led to a full evacuation after being mistaken for an active shooter situation. As per the information from Denver7, Lakewood Police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene around 5:40 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the mall's food court. The whole shopping center was cleared as officers conducted a thorough search for any potential victims.
What the police discovered, however, was that the sounds initially believed to be gunshots were the result of a prank by a group of juveniles, "Upon further investigation, it appears that a group of juveniles were attempting to prank a friend," Lakewood Police Department stated on social media, as reported by KKTV. The investigation revealed no evidence of a shooting incident and, fortunately, no individuals were harmed.
Adding more detail to the event, According to The Denver Post, the abrupt noise was caused by three boys who, while wearing masks, stood on chairs in the food court and loudly slammed milk jugs onto the ground. Authorities managed to locate two of the three boys, subsequently citing them for causing a public disturbance.
