A newly appointed Bond Study Committee is set to hold its inaugural meeting to discuss the future of public infrastructure and development in the community. The committee is scheduled for Thursday, August 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and comprises 19 local members, ranging from civic leaders to business professionals. This significant gathering, aimed at shaping potential projects that could enhance community development, will take place in the Goldie Locke Room of the Duckworth Building at 217 N. Fifth St.
The committee's role is to consult and provide a solid recommendation to the City Council on various potential development initiatives. According to the City of Garland, these recommendations could influence the Council’s decision to call a bond election in May 2025. The formation of the committee is a testimony to the city's proactive stance on community improvement and fiscal responsibility. Each of the members was appointed by the City Council on July 15 and brings an array of insights and experience to the table.
Notable among the appointees are Peter Almanza, Mary Brumbach, and Bob Duckworth. The committee also includes Lindsey Fiegelman, Sharonda Green, and Jaric Jones, as well as a mix of other community members who are listed in the official statement. Together, they will embark on a mission to meticulously assess the needs and opportunities within the city's current and future infrastructure prospects.
The committee has the benefit of working closely with staff from the City’s Bond Program Development Team during their evaluation process. This collaboration is key to understanding the nuances of the projects and ensuring that the proposals are both pragmatic and beneficial for residents. All meetings of the Bond Study Committee will be open to the public. This transparency is a nod to the democratic process and allows for direct community input on matters that will shape their daily lives.
