Residents of North Austin's Wells Branch neighborhood experienced a jolt of unease on Tuesday morning when authorities responded to a report of a suspicious package. As per CBS Austin, the incident unfolded at around 10:56 a.m. on the 2300 block of Dowd Lane. The Travis County Sheriff's Office, alongside the Austin Police Department Bomb Squad and Travis County ESD 2, swiftly converged on the scene, urging residents to shelter in place and stay clear of the area.
Amidst the commotion, the Pflugerville Fire Department inform the public about the ongoing operation. Numerous public safety units were managing the situation and reiterated calls for people to avoid the vicinity. The shelter-in-place directive, facilitated by a reverse 911 call initiated by the Travis County Sheriff's Office, was a precaution as specialists worked to assess the potential threat posed by the package.
However, tensions were later diffused when law enforcement declared the package a false alarm. The Pflugerville Fire Department's Facebook page updated the community, signaling an end to the alert and noting that emergency services were demobilizing from the area. This news was a welcome relief for residents, who were told that there was no longer a need for the shelter-in-place and could expect a timely departure of the public safety units.
