A substitute teacher from Legacy High School in North Las Vegas has found herself on the wrong side of the law after police discovered a gun in the school's parking lot. The Clark County School District Police Department confirmed the arrest of 52-year-old Jynnell McClellan on Monday—a revelation that has quickly stirred public concern over school safety.
Authorities were alerted to the presence of a firearm in the parking lot, leading to the swift arrest of McClellan, who has been a substitute teacher in the district since 2015. Despite having a valid concealed carry permit, McClellan faces serious charges for possessing a firearm on school property, which is a clear violation of Nevada law. In accordance with both district policy and state law, McClellan was immediately removed from the Clark County School District’s substitute pool, effectively disqualifying her from teaching within the district. According to the Las Vegas Sun, McClellan had been employed by the district for several years without incident before this event.
The reasons for McClellan bringing a gun onto school grounds remain unclear. According to news3lv.com, police stressed that "No threats were made to the school or students," in an attempt to ease concerns in the North Las Vegas area. Although the full impact of McClellan’s arrest has yet to be fully understood, the quick response by authorities and school officials underscores the crucial duty to ensure the safety of students and staff on school campuses.
