Marion Franklin High School's star athlete, Dawayne Galloway, is making waves across Ohio, and rightly so – he has just vaulted into the highly coveted ESPN 300, securing the #8 spot for cornerbacks in the state, a recognition that's surely to be the envy of many a high school football hopeful. With ESPN branding him a 4-star athlete, Galloway's garnered attention from Division I scouts like bees to honey, and after a fierce stretch of recruitment, he's decided to don the black and gold, committing to Purdue University, according to Columbus City Schools.
It's not just the gridiron where Galloway shines. No, this athlete has track and field accolades trailing him as well. Despite the late start in his sophomore year, he quickly ascended to district champion, regional champion, and second place at state competitions in both the 100 and 200 sprints, a whirlwind of victories that typically take years to achieve, but he did so in a stunning debut season, a feat sure to raise more than a few eyebrows. His junior year only added to the lore, with a repeat silver in the state 100 and his relay team smashing school records in the 4x100 and 4x200, alongside a third-place state finish in the 4x100 relay.
The transition from high school to college ball is a critical juncture, and Galloway's high school coach, Floyd Cisco, has been quite vocal about his protégé's potential, noting he's eager to see Dawayne. As announced on the Columbus City Schools website "performing on the field" and "showing the world what he is made of." Such sentiments from a seasoned coach paint a vivid picture of the expectations riding on Galloway's shoulders as he steps onto Purdue's turf.
Galloway, now attending Walnut Ridge High School, attributes much of his success to the constant support from his team, acknowledging their part in his journey to the top; it's a humble nod to the collaborative spirit of sports and a reminder that while individual talent can shine bright, it often burns with a borrowed flame from those who have helped fan it into existence. Now, with his eyes on the Boilermaker's horizon, Dawayne Galloway is poised to zip into a future that seems tailor-made for his impressive suite of skills on both the field and the track.
