Ohio will soon see a significant shift in its cannabis market as regulatory bodies have started to greenlight recreational marijuana sales. As reported by The Columbus Dispatch, the Division of Cannabis Control announced plans to issue the first dual-use certificates of operation to dispensaries, paving the way for recreational sales to commence next Tuesday.

With the legalization approved by Ohio voters last November for adults aged 21 and older, the state has been preparing to transition select dispensaries from medical to dual-use facilities. In a process ahead of schedule, the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control is now set to formally launch the recreational program. “We are stepping into a new future for Ohio where citizens will have access to safe products and communities will feel the benefits of this growing industry through tax revenue and job opportunities”, Tom Haren, spokesperson for the Ohio Cannabis Coalition, expressed gratitude for the expedited progress to both ensure safety and counter the illicit market, as per an interview with WKYC.

Various dispensaries across the state are prepared to open their doors for recreational sales. Names of these dispensaries have been released, including the likes of Sunnyside, Ohio Cannabis Company, and The Citizen by Klutch. Additionally, establishments such as Amplify and Zen Leaf are also on the list to serve both medical and recreational consumers from Tuesday onwards. Amidst the process to finalize recreational sales, dispensary owners like Brian Wingfield of Ohio Cannabis Company are eager to begin, stating, "I feel honored to be part of this historic event," according to The Dispatch.

Before sales can start, licensees must diligently update their information in the state's tracking system and communicate their intent to begin sales with local officials. Despite the rapid progress, the Division of Cannabis Control has emphasized the commitment to consumer safety and regulatory compliance. The state affirms that no recreational sales will occur over the weekend, with a formal announcement and map update expected on Monday.
