As the Ohio Valley settles into a cooler-than-average weather pattern, residents can sigh relief from the oppressive summer heat, thanks to a dominating high-pressure system. The National Weather Service reported, "High pressure and a dry but cool airmass will remain in place across the Ohio Valley through Wednesday." This will pave the way for a notable warming trend throughout the week.
Today's climate fare offers northerly winds and some fair weather clouds, especially eastward, with temperatures hovering in the low to mid-70s. In what could be a welcomed respite from recent heat waves, the forecast notes, "temperatures will remain well below normal with afternoon highs only in the low to mid-70s," providing an unusual cool spell for the region. Clearing skies are expected as surface high pressure continues its gradual descent tonight, leading into Wednesday, with overnight lows dipping into the comfortable mid-40s to lower 50s.
The mid-week forecast holds steady with mild highs predominantly in the mid-70s; however, a gradual warming is on the horizon. "The extended forecast seems to be well in hand with a consistent warming trend occurring," according to the NWS discussion. Come Thursday, temperatures are expected to climb, signaling the potential last of the 70-degree high temperatures for the foreseeable future. The rest of the week projects a swift ascent back into the 80s, even touching the verge of the 90s by the weekend.
The aviation outlook appears smooth for those who frequent the skies, with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expecting "VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period." This comes after some scattered clouds today, which are anticipated to dissipate into the evening due to the high-pressure influence. Although some MVFR visibility restrictions are possible late in the period, particularly at KLUK, where some patchy river valley fog may arise, overall benign conditions are anticipated, thus upholding a streak of clear to partly cloudy skies with no significant weather disruptions expected through the start of the weekend. As such, Ohio's aviators and passengers alike can look forward to unfettered travels across the vast blue expanses above.
