Early this morning, tragedy struck in east Columbus, where a fatal collision claimed the life of one individual and injured three others. The deadly incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on East Livingston Avenue, just west of South Hamilton Road. ABC6 initially reported on the crash, noting that the circumstances of the accident were not immediately precise. Still, the aftermath had led to the closure of the area, which could have persisted for hours.
According to details later released by the Columbus Division of Police and covered by WBNS, the collision involved a head-on crash where a female driver heading eastbound on East Livingston Avenue was struck by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction. The car, carrying three people, was moving westbound in the eastbound lanes when it clashed head-on with the female's car, a fatal mistake that extinguished a life and left others in the balance of injury and shock.
The individuals' identities have not yet been released as investigations are ongoing. The stretch of the road where the accident occurred remained cordoned off well into the early morning hours, as emergency responders and crash investigators worked the scene. MyFox28 Columbus confirmed that the area remained roped off at 6:15 a.m., suggesting commuters seek alternative routes.
Sgt. Joe Albert told WBNS that the accident appeared to be a consequence of the all-too-common wrong-way driving errors. However, official clarifications on the cause are yet to be determined as the police continue to scrutinize the event.
