Osceola County has made strides in addressing the critical shortage of affordable housing by unveiling the second phase of Cameron Preserve, which introduced 84 new affordable rental units this past Wednesday. Demonstrating a sustained commitment to this issue, the county has invested $8.2 million into the project, building upon the success of the 100-unit first phase which began leasing units in 2018, as reported by Osceola County press release.
"I'm thrilled we could sustain our collaboration and expand this complex," Commissioner Viviana Janer stated, per the county's press release, indicating the project’s importance to the local government. The county's partnership with Birdsong Housing Partners, Parramore Construction Company, Inc., and the Florida Housing Finance Corporation has effectively tackled the affordability crisis. The new units were quickly snapped up by residents, reaffirming the urgent demand for such housing solutions.
The amenities at Cameron Preserve are not limited to just housing. There is a community building complete with computers and printers plus classroom space for various resident initiatives – employment assistance programs, health and wellness services, financial management programs, and on-site food programs are all part of the effort to provide comprehensive support to residents.
Strategically located near U.S. Highway 192, the development allows for easy access to transportation, schools, shopping, and recreational venues, highlighting not only Osceola County's investment in affordable housing but also in the quality of life of its residents. Phase 1 of the initiative, set in motion in 2015 after Commissioner Janer pointed out the suitability of the "Yates Property" for housing, has already made a significant impact in transitioning families out of hotels and homelessness and supporting them towards stability.
