On Thursday, a serious incident occurred in Petaluma when a dispute led to a dangerous situation involving a machete. The Petaluma Police Department reported that on the 700 block of Marin Way, 50-year-old Heather Doyle allegedly chased someone with the weapon, causing alarm in the community.

The drama unfolded around 4:22 PM when Doyle reportedly armed herself and coerced the victim into retreating and barricading themselves inside a room. The Petaluma Police were en route as the situation worsened, with Doyle allegedly hacking at the barricade before forcing entry. She attempted to assault the victim with a machete, but thankfully, no contact was made.

Officers surrounded the residence to resolve the crisis while communicating into the home, urging Doyle to come out peacefully. It took several minutes, but law enforcement was able to establish communication with the victim and another person inside the residence, ensuring both individuals could be evacuated to safety.

Upon entering the residence, it was determined that Doyle was no longer inside and had likely fled to Novato. Acting on new information, Petaluma Police collaborated with the Novato Police Department, which led to the discovery of Doyle’s vehicle and her subsequent arrest. Petaluma PD officers took her into custody, and Doyle was booked at Sonoma County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. It was a relief to all involved that no injuries were reported during the volatile incident, and the weapon was recovered.
