Residents of Port Richmond, Philadelphia, woke up to find red paint vandalism on homes and cars on Sunday morning. The damage affected five homes and three cars on East Monmouth, Edgemont, Birch, and East Ann streets. Surveillance video showed the suspect, prompting both community members and police to work together to find the person responsible, according to CBS News.
Eyewitness footage from Ring doorbells shows a man who police are now investigating as the main suspect. Authorities responded quickly to the vandalism, which occurred early in the morning. Longtime resident John Alfonso, who has lived in Port Richmond for 57 years, told CBS News, "It's always been a beautiful neighborhood. It's quiet, it's been a great place to live. Now things are changing."
Resident Tom Sheridan told FOX 29 that it added to the struggles of those already facing difficulties, calling it senseless. Neighbors think the tags "Tito" and "7$ HP" might refer to local landmarks or personal details about the vandal.
Some graffiti appeared to point to a local spot, with "7$ HP" possibly referring to 7th and Hunting Park. Residents are now dealing with significant cleanup and repair costs. Thomas Fasone from Fasone’s Sports Bar & Grill told FOX 29 that a $3 can of paint caused thousands of dollars in damage. Angela Wise told 6abc Action News that the graffiti was especially disturbing because of its impact on elderly community members and the neighborhood’s appearance.
To help with the police investigation, flyers with the suspect's image are being distributed. The suspect is described as a man aged 25 to 35, with a short haircut, full beard, and noticeable tattoos on his neck and forearms, according to 6abc Action News. James Campbell, another affected resident, highlighted the high cost of repairing his home’s facade. The community is united in their effort to find the culprit, with Angela Wise warning, "People are looking for you. You're not going to get away with it." The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward.
