After a recent tragedy shook the Holmesburg community, a collaborative effort between the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) and the American Red Cross aims to bolster local fire safety measures. In the wake of a deadly blaze earlier this month on Bleigh Avenue, these organizations are stepping up to install smoke alarms and share critical safety information with residents.
For those living on the 4400 block of Bleigh Avenue, the efforts scheduled for tomorrow, August 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. represent not just the installation of a device but a potential lifeline, as reported by the City of Philadelphia. In their ongoing mission, the PFD has already installed over 3,800 smoke alarms across the city this year, as they confirm that this form of preparedness is indeed their priority—proving the adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
The initiative is particularly inclusive, taking into account the needs of all community members. According to the PFD's announcement, Philadelphia residents in need of smoke alarms can request them through Philly 311, which leads to the PFD providing installations at no cost.
