Philadelphia's Department of Streets Commissioner, Kristin Del Rossi, has announced the upcoming schedule for street resurfacing across several areas in the city. According to the official announcement, the process will kick off in the 4th Highway District starting the week of August 26, 2024. Residents should brace for temporary closures and adjusted parking regulations.
Residents can expect that work in the 4th Highway District Bid#3964_G2023-00717 will roll out in three phases over the several months, beginning with street milling which is set to last approximately five days for each corridor. This will be followed by the adjustment of manhole covers and resetting of utility boxes, estimated to take two to three days per area, and completed with final paving, expected to span three to five days, weather permitting. The majority of this work is scheduled for daytime hours between 7:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., proposing a minimal disruption to night-time routines.
Commensurate with construction requirements, "No Parking" signs will be posted before each phase of work. The Department of Streets urged residents to comply with these temporary restrictions to avoid the inconvenience of towing. In the unfortunate circumstance that a vehicle is towed, the Department advises contacting the local Police District for retrieval information. Motorists navigating these zones should plan for potential delays.
In addition to contractors J.J. Anderson handling the milling and manhole work, the final paving stages will be undertaken by city workers, ensuring that local expertise is at the heart of these improvements. While the Department of Streets assures to make every attempt at reducing traffic interference, alternative routes are recommended for commuters. The department extends gratitude to citizens for their patience and cooperation in the face of these essential upgrades aimed at enhancing the everyday travel experience in Philadelphia.
