A high-speed chase in Parkland ended abruptly when a Pierce County deputy successfully performed a PIT maneuver to stop a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred on the morning of June 13th at the intersection of 96th St and 20th Ave S. The deputy located a vehicle reported as stolen; upon sighting a deputy patrol car, the suspect attempted to flee, initiating the pursuit, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department described the efficiency of the deputy's actions, stating, "Just as quickly as it started our deputy performed a successful PIT maneuver in less than 40 seconds." This tactical move halted the suspect's escape and managed to pin the vehicle against a telephone pole, preventing any further attempt to evade capture; after the maneuver, an armed citizen came forward offering assistance, but backup arrived simultaneously, nullifying the need for civilian intervention.

Following the prompt stoppage of the vehicle, the deputy waited for additional personnel before proceeding. When backup arrived, they searched and found a bag of methamphetamine in the driver’s pocket. The 44-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled substance; their detention was assured, and the suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail.
