Yesterday’s routine evening was disrupted when Pittsburgh’s emergency services were rushed to the scene of a shooting at the Carnegie Museum in Oakland. At around 5:30 p.m., police, fire, and EMS responded to reports of a gunshot victim within the cultural institution at 4400 Forbes Avenue, where the fabric of everyday life briefly unraveled under the sound of gunfire, as reported by the City of Pittsburgh’s Public Safety Department.
First responders found a museum worker with a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh. The injury was a painful reminder of ongoing gun violence, affecting both his body. Despite his injury, he was conscious, alert, and speaking with officers and medics. He was taken to the hospital by Medic 5 and is listed in stable condition. However, the emotional impact of the incident is more difficult to address and treat.
Authorities stayed on the scene into the night, with the Mobile Crime Unit collecting evidence. They found at least one shell casing, a reminder of the tragic event. Detectives are working to figure out what happened and why, but they have assured the public that this appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat
