A tragic turn of events unfolded in Pomona when two individuals were critically injured in a car crash on August 18, 2023. According to a report by the Pomona Police Department, authorities responded around 6:21 PM to the site at White Avenue and Berkley Avenue, one of the injured parties later died as a result of their injuries. The suspect driver, a Pomona resident, is now facing serious charges after it was found they were allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and cannabis.
In the investigation that followed, authorities discovered the suspect was allegedly driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph just seconds before the collision. A Drug Recognition Expert from the Claremont Police Department aided the Pomona Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), and their observations coupled with toxicology results confirmed the suspect's condition. The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has since charged the driver with murder under 187 (a) PC and driving a vehicle while under the influence causing bodily injury under 23153 (g) VC.
