Human remains found on a Lenawee County property have been conclusively identified as those of Dee Warner, who had been missing since April 2021. Michigan State Police broke this development on social media yesterday, as reported by The Detroit News. Warner, a mother and grandmother of 52 years of age at her disappearance, was found on her husband Dale Warner's property, a man who now faces murder charges related to her vanishing.
The investigation into Dee Warner's disappearance took a turn when police discovered human remains during the execution of a search warrant on Dale Warner's property. Michigan State Police declared the case a homicide, withholding the cause of death from the public. As the investigation continues, Michigan State Police have been collecting evidence in collaboration with the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure a conviction, according to Hoodline. Dale Warner was taken into custody in November 2023 and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on September 4, facing the possibility of life imprisonment if convicted.
Found within an anhydrous ammonia tank on the property, the identification of Dee's remains answers a haunting question that has echoed within the community and her family for over three years. As per 13abc, Dee Warner's brother, Gregg Hardy, mentioned, "This conclusion of the medical examiner unequivocally saying he had a perfect match with the dental records, and so there was absolutely no doubt in his mind in signing a death certificate, with the identification of it being my sister, was such a reassuring event". Dee Warner's relatives, upon being notified by Michigan State Police, have described an overwhelming mix of relief and sorrow.
Previously, the absence of Dee's body had been a crucial element leaning in the defense's favor during legal proceedings. Unearthed evidence, such as the fact about the property at which the remains were found, had been presented as primarily circumstantial. Dee had been declared legally dead earlier this year following a petition filed by the family in 2022, suggesting a likelihood of not finding her alive. Dee's son lauded her as a caring mother, and her brother described her as a social butterfly, painting a picture of a woman full of life and love.
