A bar altercation in Center Line, Michigan, has resulted in multiple charges against a Roseville man. Joel Anthony Martinez, 48, is facing misdemeanor charges after an incident at Te Roma Bar on Van Dyke near 10 Mile Road.
According to The Detroit News, Martinez was arraigned on Monday and has been charged with aggravated assault, assault and battery, along with disturbing the peace. He allegedly punched a 50-year-old man, causing the victim to fall and strike his head on the concrete, leading to severe injuries. The alleged assault happened on Saturday and the individual remains hospitalized in an intensive care unit. Another man was purportedly struck by Martinez during the same incident.
The bond for Martinez has been set at $5,000, and he has been ordered to avoid any contact with the victim or witnesses and is prohibited from returning to the Te Roma Bar. Furthermore, if he posts bond, he must wear an alcohol-monitoring tether. Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido commented on the severity of the situation, “The defendant's actions during this alleged bar fight were reckless and dangerous, leaving the victim with significant harm. We are committed to holding the defendant accountable for this alleged violent behavior and ensuring justice is served for the victim,” as reported by Audacy. His next court hearing is scheduled for September 18, though no attorney is currently listed for Martinez in court records.
Further details surrounding what precipitated the altercation have not been made public. In the announcement of the charges, Prosecutor Lucido underscored the office's commitment to accountability, saying, "We are committed to holding the defendant accountable for this alleged violent behavior and ensuring justice is served for the victim." This statement was relayed by The Detroit News. The condition of the second individual allegedly hit by Martinez has not been specified.
