Patrons of the Igo and Pan American Branch Libraries in San Antonio will need to adjust their routines as both facilities close temporarily to upgrade their heating and cooling systems. Announced today, the renovation efforts are part of an upkeep plan for all 30 locations in the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) system, aimed at creating more comfortable environments for its users during the city’s sweltering summers and occasional chilly winters.
Despite the inconvenience, library services will remain accessible through a curbside pickup option that starts immediately. As detailed in the city's announcement, visitors can call upon arrival and have their reserved items brought out to their vehicles – a service mirroring the contactless models adopted broadly during pandemic-era operations.
The closures are expected to persist into the fall, but the city ensures residents will have continuous access to library resources. In addition to the libraries' outdoor Wi-Fi, which remains available to anyone in proximity to the buildings, patrons can also visit neighboring branches. The Mission and Cortez Branch Libraries serve as alternates for Pan American visitors, while the Cody and Maverick Branch Libraries will accommodate those from the Igo Library area.
Arrangements have been made to ease the transition for librarygoers. With curbside pickup hours ranging from a 4 p.m. start on Mondays to an early afternoon closure on Fridays, and Saturdays, the service is shaped to fit a variety of schedules. However, the book drops will be closed during this period, requiring patrons to either hold onto their books or return them at alternative sites.
Residents looking for library services are encouraged by the SAPL to explore the full gamut of nearby locations across San Antonio. A comprehensive list can be found on the library’s website. For additional library support, the public may reach out to staff by phone at 210-207-2500, or engage through a chat service at Ask.MySAPL.org, according to their most recent communication.
