With a Congressionally Directed Funding Request led by Rep. Kim, the department is set to enhance its policing capacities with $1.5 million aimed at the purchase of body-worn cameras. With these funds, the intention is to further professionalize the department and foster community trust, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Shannon Dicus expressed his appreciation, stating, "Congresswoman Young Kim’s support for law enforcement has been instrumental in securing this critical funding for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department." This sizable grant comes from a part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, of 2014, which was a package containing six appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2024. Supervisor Curt Hagman conveyed the impact of the collaboration with Rep. Kim, "This funding represents a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance public safety through advanced technology."
Representative Kim underscored her commitment to law enforcement and public safety, saying, "I am proud to secure vital federal resources for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to purchase body camera and taser equipment, so law enforcement can better do their jobs and ensure deputies follow accountability practices." The department, which serves over 2.1 million residents across a vast region and employs over 4,200 individuals, is expected to progress towards greater operational transparency and the fortifying of community relations with the integration of this technology.
