A 45-year-old man was apprehended by Seattle Police for allegations of unlawful imprisonment and assault after an incident that occurred three weeks ago. The encounter unfolded on the evening of July 23 in the 3900 block of South Othello Street, Seattle, where officers responded to a distress call concerning potential auto theft, in which the suspect was reportedly equipped with a knife, according to the SPD Blotter.
Following the description of the vehicle in question, officers promptly located the suspect, who was brandishing a knife measuring three and a half inches and proceeded to detain him; the man, whose identity was not released, was then booked on charges relating to unlawful imprisonment and assault, with bail set at a hefty $100,000 sum. While initial reports suggested a random act of theft, it became evident through further police scrutiny that the suspect and the victim, a 34-year-old man, were acquaintances and the situation had escalated after the suspect allegedly wielded a knife to coerce his friend, as the pair set out to supposedly spend time together.
The victim recounted a harrowing experience of being held at knifepoint and forced to drive to a bank, an ordeal from which he ultimately managed to escape with minor injuries; the aftermath of his escape saw him sustaining a cut to the hand believed to be resultant from a defensive action taken while extricating himself from the vehicle, as reported by the police.
This case has been assigned to the Homicide & Assault Unit for additional investigation.
