Early last Thursday morning, the Green Lake neighborhood was startled by a smash-and-grab burglary that has prompted an investigation by Seattle Police. The incident took place a little before 6 a.m., at a commercial establishment located on the 400 block of Northeast 71st Street. According to the Seattle Police Department, responding officers found a shattered front entrance to the business, with a portion of the wall torn apart.

Further investigation revealed the modus operandi of the theft - two individuals cloaked in coveralls and masks broke through a glass door and attempted to make off with a safe using a tether and chain. Despite their efforts which left the metal security gate mangled and the front glass walls in pieces, they were unsuccessful with the safe. The culprits fled in two vehicles before the presence of law enforcement, leaving behind a trail of further chaos. In their hasty departure, "they fled westbound and collided into fourteen other vehicles, damaging them", said the Seattle Police Department.

The culprits’ reckless escape resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage, reported the on-site supervisor. The matter has since been escalated, with detectives from the General Investigations Unit stepping in to resolve the case. The police have yet to report any arrests.
