Two individuals faced a sharp pivot from a late-night roadside hazard to facing the weight of the law as Sonoma County Sheriff's deputies discovered a concerning array of illegal items in their possession. According to the Sonoma Sheriff's Office, deputies found the suspects with a significant stash of suspected fentanyl pills and other drugs alongside a loaded gun while checking on a parked vehicle in Petaluma.
The incident began when a deputy, responding to an alarm call, noticed a pickup truck parked haphazardly against the traffic flow. Kayne Enyeart, 61, from Alaska, was found slumped over the wheel and unresponsive. This routine welfare check swiftly escalated when Enyeart reached the truck's center console as the deputy roused him, prompting an urgent extraction for safety reasons. Then, the deputy spotted a small bag with a white crystalline substance.
A closer inspection revealed an array of illegal contraband: a loaded .45 caliber pistol, additional ammunition, a large blade, approximately 500 suspected fentanyl pills, and baggies of suspected fentanyl powder and methamphetamine. The total haul included 244.5 grams of fentanyl and 92.8 grams of methamphetamine. Enyeart now faces eight felony charges, his bail set at $30,000.
The passenger, Deanna Welsh, 52, also of Alaska, found herself cited and later released on several charges, including possession and transportation of narcotics for sale.
