A man has been taken into custody after allegedly attacking a group of Jewish students near the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning. The students were reportedly on their way to Shabbat services when the incident occurred, resulting in two students requiring treatment at the scene, as noted in a WPXI report.
According to statements from the university, a suspect was swiftly arrested and there is no known ongoing threat to the public. The father of one of the victims, wearing a kippah at the time of the assault, relayed to WTAE that his son, an active senior member in the Pittsburgh Jewish community, was released after being tended to by medics on Friday night.
The University of Pittsburgh officials have condemned the violence and pledged there will be no tolerance for antisemitism, as reported by WPXI. In the wake of the attack, the university has reached out to Hillel Jewish University Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, offering support and assistance to the student victims.
