An early morning incident at Cougar Run Elementary in Highlands Ranch has left one family shaken. A 9-year-old child experienced a harrowing moment when an unknown suspect entered their parent's vehicle, stealing a computer and bag while the child was still inside. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the thief quickly transferred the stolen goods to an accomplice waiting in a nearby black SUV before they sped away. The child was physically unharmed during the theft.
The Douglas County Sheriff's deputies reviewed surveillance footage from the school to gather information on the suspects. They concluded that the getaway vehicle appeared to be a Toyota RAV4 with a sunroof. As for the suspects, the school's cameras captured images of a white, heavy-set female wearing a white shirt and sporting a tattoo on her right forearm behind the wheel of the suspect vehicle. Her accomplice, also caught on video, is described as a white male with dark hair, sporting a dark shirt, attempting to conceal his identity with a mask covering his nose and mouth.
Shortly following the theft, at approximately 7:12 a.m., the victim's credit card was reportedly used at a nearby King Soopers grocery store on Highlands Ranch Parkway and University. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the vicinity soon after but were unable to locate either the suspects or the SUV in question.
