A shooting at an unsanctioned car meet in Newark early Sunday morning has left a 17-year-old male injured. Delaware State Police are currently delving into the events that led to the violence, according to official statements.
The incident occurred on Tyler Way, where a large crowd had gathered, and at around 1:21 a.m., state troopers were called to the scene to find the teenager with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs, officials remarked in a press release; he was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later released. The unauthorized gathering quickly escalated when a young man argued with a suspect who threatened to shoot him. Another person then carried out the threat, approaching and shooting the victim.
The suspects, immediately following the incident, made their escape in a silver sedan - the first distinct as a Middle Eastern male dressed in a white hooded sweatshirt, the second a light-skinned black male with dreadlocks clothed in a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask cloaking his face, detectives are still collecting further descriptions and searching for available surveillance footage or photographs. In the meantime, the State Police have reasoned that public assistance could be key to unraveling this crime and have urged anyone with pertinent information to reach out to Detective M. Conway at 302-365-8411 or call 911, or alternatively through contact avenues such as private messaging on Facebook, Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or through their website.
