Three women were hospitalized after a golf cart they were traveling in crashed on Kelleys Island yesterday evening, an incident that underscores the potential dangers of such leisurely transports often downplayed in their risk. Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the 2017 EZGO golf cart, maneuvered by Eleanor Austin, 27, veered off Division Street, rolled over, and sent its passengers flying into the surrounding woods, leading to severe injuries. Cleveland19 highlighted that the crash occurred close to 6:46 p.m. with Austin and her two companions, Stela Francic, 25, and Brenda Mesa, 21, both from Sandusky, being ejected from the vehicle.
The accident took place near Titus Road, where, following the crash, all three individuals were life-flighted for medical treatment. While the driver was taken to a hospital in Toledo, the remaining two were transported to a facility in Cleveland, as detailed by FOX8 News. The severity of the injuries was pronounced for the driver, while the extent of injuries sustained by Francic and Mesa has not been detailed.
Highway Patrol officials are still investigating the accident to determine the precise causation behind Austin's loss of control, which flipped the cart off the right side of the road, according to WKYC. In a statement obtained by the same publication, troopers relayed that the crash happened just after 6:45 p.m. yesterday. The timing of the incident coincided with an influx of visitors to the island, a popular summertime getaway. The authorities have not yet released any updates regarding the condition of Austin or her passengers since they were admitted to the hospital.
