A sewer pipeline rupture near Mirabella Boulevard, which prompted lake closures in the area, has now been fully contained. The Trinity River Authority (TRA) reports that the incident did not pose a threat to public drinking water supplies and will not interrupt service to customers. The spill was identified around 1:00 p.m. last Friday when a treatment plant belonging to the TRA's Central Regional Wastewater System discovered the damage, as per the City of Grand Prairie.
Despite the all-clear, local parks such as Lynn Creek Park, Loyd Park, and Britton Park for day use remain closed as a precautionary measure. Residents using private drinking water supply wells situated within a half-mile radius of the spill site or those potentially affected by the spill are now faced with an inconvenient truth. The TRA advises that they must boil their water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, and even bathing.
Aquatic life has not been spared in the spill's wake, suffering from the untreated outflow that seeped into their habitat. In response, the TRA has contacted the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to alert them of the potential environmental impacts. Moreover, residents relying on private wells in the vicinity of the spill are strongly encouraged to have their water tested and properly disinfected.
