The manhunt for a suspected double homicide perpetrator, Jaquez Hoover, ended successfully yesterday, thanks to US Marshals/SOFAST personnel who executed the arrest. Operating in the 4600 block of Glengate Drive, Marshals seized Hoover on outstanding warrants and did so without incident, a significant relief for the victims' families, law enforcement, and the community at large. According to the Columbus Police Department, families of both victims have been notified of Hoover's apprehension.
Days before the capture, the Columbus Division of Police made an urgent appeal for the public's assistance in locating this suspect tied to the slaying on N. 5th Street. They warned citizens not to confront Hoover directly as he was considered armed and dangerous, an understandable stance given the nature of the charges against him. Photos of Hoover, gearing to help identify him, were circulated then.
Hoover had been at large since mid-June when he was identified as the main suspect in this violent crime that left two dead and two injured. The immediate aftermath of the June shooting saw the swift pronouncement of one victim's death at the scene, followed by another's death at a local hospital just an hour later. Capturing Hoover was a significant milestone for the local community and a step towards justice for those involved.
The critical break in the case came when surveillance video images turned public, enabling detectives to lay a solid foundation for warrants against Hoover. He faced two counts of Murder when Marshals picked him up in late August. The two additional victims, who were also caught in the gunfire that night, have fortunately been on the road to recovery since being transported by CFD Medic to local hospitals.
